A Message from Cardinal Wilton D. Gregory

June 19, 2019 Dear friends, As the people of the Archdiocese of Washington have welcomed me, so I welcome you to the John Carroll Society. As a former Red Mass homilist, I am well acquainted with the Society. Named for the first Catholic bishop in the United States, the Society is a unique organization, bringing together Catholic lay leaders in the fields of law, medicine, business, education, and other professions in service to the Archbishop. My predecessors and I are most grateful for your support. As I embark with joy and hope on my service as the seventh Archbishop of Washington, I look forward to meeting you and working with you. Together we can strengthen our faith in God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, weave together our diverse Catholic community, and reach out to those most in need. The John Carroll Society carries out all of these goals with vigor -- offering programs focused on faith and spirituality; opportunities for fellowship; and activities serving the poor through the Catholic Charities Healthcare and Legal Networks, scholarship programs for students attending our Catholic schools, and a variety of community service. The challenges of these times are great, both internally within the universal Church and externally in our nation and the world around us. But we all can have confidence that 'The One Whom even wind and sea obeyed has never left our side!' Sincerely yours in Christ, Wilton D. Gregory, Archbishop of Washington
